MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

FULL TIME POSITION

Overview:
Wahl develops and manufactures its own proprietary refractory castable formulations, engineered for demanding industrial applications and used in the production of high-performance precast shapes. Our Material Development Engineers play a hands-on role in developing, testing, and supporting alumina and alumino-silicate based products used across the aluminum, steel, and minerals processing industries.

  • This role offers exposure to the full product lifecycle — from laboratory development and testing to manufacturingscale-up and real-world application.

In this role, you will:

  • Work alongside experienced engineers and technical leaders in a collaborative lab and manufacturing environment.
  • Support the development and testing of refractory formulations for specific industrial applications.
  • Partner with manufacturing, sales, and application teams to help solve customer process challenges.
  • Gain experience transferring new products and formulations from development into production.
  • Learn how refractory technologies are designed, evaluated, and applied in real operating conditions.

WHO THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR:

Graduates or graduating spring 2026 with or pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Ceramic Engineering who are curious, hands-on, and eager to apply classroom knowledge in an industrial setting. Exposure to refractory materials, testing methods, or lab work is helpful but not required.

CUSTOMER TECHNICAL LIAISON

FULL TIME POSITION

Overview:
Wahl designs and manufactures custom-engineered precast refractory components, systems, and complete furnace linings for customers across the Aluminum, Steel, and Minerals Processing industries. The Customer Technical Liaison serves as a bridge between our customers and our internal engineering and manufacturing teams — helping translate customer needs into practical, high-performance solutions.

  • This role blends technical problem-solving, customer interaction, and real-world engineering application, making it an excellent fit for students interested in both engineering and field experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Visit customer facilities alongside experienced Wahl team members to understand operating challenges firsthand.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to support refractory system and component designs.
  • Help communicate technical concepts, designs, and solutions to customers.
  • Follow projects from concept through installation and performance evaluation.
  • Gain exposure to how technical solutions contribute to customer success and business growth.

WHO THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR:

Graduates or graduating spring 2026 with or pursuing a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering who enjoy problem-solving, teamwork, and learning through hands-on experience. This role involves regional travel (approximately 60–75%), offering valuable exposure to industrial environments and customer operations.

PROCESS ENGINEER

FULL TIME POSITION

Overview:
Wahl is a premier manufacturer of custom precast refractory components and systems serving the Steel, Nonferrous, and Minerals Processing industries. All Wahl products are manufactured to our customers’ exacting specifications to perform in the most demanding high-temperature environments.

The Process Engineer plays a key role in manufacturing operations by optimizing processes to improve safety, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness. This role works cross-functionally with Design & Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to design, implement, and continuously improve processes that support Wahl’s ability to deliver innovative, high-quality products to our customers.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement visual work instructions for the plant floor.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Apply Kaizen and LEAN manufacturing principles to improve process efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues related to process equipment, materials, and molds.
  • Utilize analytical tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, and design of experiments.

WHO THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR:

Individuals with 2–5 years of experience in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering who have strong technical and problem-solving skills. This role is well-suited for those who enjoy working in a small-to-medium manufacturing environment in Fremont, Ohio, with hands-on involvement across a wide range of process improvement and manufacturing support activities related to precast refractory products.
